Alex Coppersmith

Chief Financial Officer/Partner
Bacchus Management Group

As the newest member of Bacchus Management Group, Alex Coppersmith brings tenured financial and institutional knowledge to the organization. Spending over 20 years in the trenches of accounting, finance, and investment banking, he developed his skills through a wide breadth of operational and transactional experience focused on the consumer industry. Whether it was auditing branded consumer product companies, raising private capital for retailers, or taking restaurant companies public, Coppersmith built his career on the measurable aspects and analytical nature of consumerism. During his years as a banker, Alex frequented San Francisco where he was introduced to Bacchus’ founding partner Tim by a mutual friend. Sharing a love for the restaurant industry, they stayed in contact over the next two decades discussing the evolving restaurant landscape and the development of Bacchus’ portfolio of restaurants.

After receiving his undergraduate degree from University of Southern California’s Leventhal School of Accounting, Coppersmith joined the international advisory and accounting firm of BDO Seidman. He audited and advised an array of companies in the consumer sector. For the next decade he leveraged his accounting acumen into financial management positions of progressing leadership roles within three Fortune 500 companies in the hospitality sector.

Driven by his desire to expand his management skills, Coppersmith pursued his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. With his degree in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management, Wharton enhanced his business acumen and relationship network which helped catapult him into the highly competitive world of investment banking. Coppersmith joined Merrill Lynch, advising on mergers, acquisitions, restructuring and capital raising. With a primary focus on retail and restaurants, he performed more than $4 billion worth of transactions for both private and public companies including such restaurateurs as Cheesecake Factory, Morton’s Steakhouse, McCormick & Schmicks, and DineEquity.

With the Bacchus family of restaurants rapidly evolving, the organization realized the need for a partner with institutional knowledge and financial discipline in order to help them achieve their long-term goals. Coppersmith joined Bacchus in 2011 and has made a significant and positive impact on the structure and future direction of the organization.
